GIFTED AND TALENTED MAGNET PROGRAM 2019 – 2020

2019 – 2020

Referrals are now being accepted for possible participation in the GATE magnet program (3rd – 5th grades) for the upcoming school year of 2019-2020 at Spring Creek Elementary School. The classes serve highly academic/creative students by providing differentiated instruction and an opportunity to interact with ability level peers.  A teacher within the GATE Program provides the students full time, daily instruction.  In addition, these magnet classrooms have regularly scheduled Art, P.E., Computer, Music, Library, and Counseling classes.

Students are selected based on indicators of success in the program using specific GATE testing criteria. A combination of verbal and non-verbal assessments have been chosen to best identify highly qualified students through a non-biased, holistic manner. If deemed appropriate once testing is completed, recommendations for admittance into the GATE Program will be made by the GATE Committee. Equal access is provided to culturally diverse students, students of different economic levels, and students with special needs.

You or your child's teacher may recommend your child for this program. Please request a referral form from the secretary at your child’s school, or visit Spring Creek Elementary's website at: www.acsd1.org/sces/

Upon receipt of a referral, we will begin an assessment process that may take several weeks. Once assessments are completed, the GATE Committee will make a placement decision regarding your child, and you will receive correspondence from me regarding the outcomes of your child's assessment and the GATE Committee’s recommendation.

For more information about the program, please contact Liann Brenneman at (307) 721-4410 or lbrenneman@acsd1.org

The referral deadline is February 20, 2019.

Online Report Card Access

Our first semester ended Friday, January 18th!   Last year, our schools moved to online report cards. Using our secure PowerSchool system, you are able to view, save, and print your student’s report cards once they are released. Semester 1 report cards are now available on the PowerSchool parent portal.

If you don’t have a PowerSchool account, or if you have forgotten how to access the system, please call Kendra at 721-4446 for instructions and information.  Only parents/guardians are allowed to create accounts to access the private and confidential information contained in PowerSchool.  When you call our office you will be provided with a unique access number and instructions that will allow you to access only your child’s information.  Please call Kendra if you need a printed copy.

DESTINATION: IMAGINATION

Slade Library will introduce a Makerspace in January 2019! The Makerspace will have activities for students to explore and create, using both electronic resources and hands-on building materials.

Some resources are pricey, so some items will be re-used by many students, like Lego & electronics projects.

Some projects will be make & take, created from donated found objects. Please consider saving and donating some of these items:

* Empty, clean containers like coffee cans, water bottles, prescription bottles (with labels removed), Altoid tins, Clorox wipes containers, egg cartons.

* Toilet paper, paper towel, wrapping paper tubes.

* Fabric remnants, felt scraps, yarn, ribbons, buttons, thread spools or other sewing notions.

* Crafting items like cotton balls, sequins, pipe cleaners, googly eyes.

* Other appreciated items: glue (for a hot glue gun or Elmer’s), tape, brass fasteners, paper clips.

* Please contact Mrs. Boss if there are any other items that you think might be of use at our Destination: Imagination.

Thank you, Janet Boss        jboss@acsd1.org

We collect Box Tops for Education here at Slade so keep clipping those items! Box Tops are collected by each classroom teacher and used to help our PTA raise money.

AmazonSmile fundraising for Slade PTA

The Slade PTA wants to remind families about a super simple way to raise funds for our school!  Amazon.com has a fundraising site called AmazonSmile which donates a small percentage of every purchase to your chosen organization.  Every time you buy an eligible item through AmazonSmile, the Slade PTA receives a tiny percentage of the sale.  AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know.  Same products, same prices, same service!!

The link AmazonSmile for Slade Elementary PTA will take you directly to smile.amazon.com in support of our organization. Or, you can go to smile.amazon.com, designate Slade Elementary School PTA as your charitable organization, and you are ready to shop.

Only purchases made through the AmazonSmile site result in a donation so you can bookmark the AmazonSmile home page to make it easier to return and shop. If you have an Amazon account, everything is the same on the AmazonSmile site: your cart, wish lists, registries, and settings. Tell your friends and relatives about it too! Anyone can choose to support Slade Elementary PTA through AmazonSmile.

Slade receives state award

Slade Elementary was honored by the Wyoming Department of Education for exceeding expectations on its school performance rating for more than three consecutive years. Well Done Slade!!!

Image result for attendance matters logo
Common sense tells us that kids who miss school miss opportunities to learn. Some absences are just unavoidable. But, how much is too much? New research tells us that missing an average of just two days a month makes a child much more likely to fail a subject or to not graduate from high school. This research also points out that parents often underestimate the effects of missing school. It's in everyone's interest that students are at school the vast majority of the time. Thank you for making attendance a priority at Slade Elementary School!
