Dear ACSD#1 Families and Community Members,
We're excited to share an update about an important step forward for Albany County School District #1 and what it means for the future of our schools and support services.
During the May Business Meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to submit an offer to purchase property located at 2931 Soldier Springs Road. Our offer was accepted and the purchase finalized, allowing us to move forward with plans to relocate several District departments to one centralized location.
The new facility will become home to our Central Administration offices, Central Kitchen, Technology, Maintenance & Operations, and Transportation departments. Bringing these services together under one roof will create a more efficient and collaborative work environment while better supporting the day-to-day operations that help our schools run smoothly.
As part of this transition, Beitel Elementary will be reimagined as a Teaching and Learning Center, providing dedicated space for our Special Education, Curriculum, and Professional Development teams. It will also house Project Transition, a community-based transition program for young adults (18-21) with intellectual disabilities that are working on a certificate of completion. This will create an environment focused on supporting our teachers, staff, and ultimately, the students they serve every day.
By purchasing this property, ACSD#1 is expected to save approximately $2 million by eliminating the need for several renovation projects and the need to build new facilities for our Maintenance and Operations department. The new facility provides the space our Transportation, Maintenance & Operations, Central Kitchen, and other support departments need to continue serving our District in the future.
Currently, both Special Services and Central Office are under contract allowing the District's Teaching and Learning Center to be fully relocated by September 15th and the new District Offices to relocate by October. We believe this is a thoughtful investment in the future of our District and the communities we proudly serve. We'll continue to share updates throughout each step of the transition, including project milestones, facility plans, and move-in timelines as they become available.
