When a student is going to be absent, the parent/guardian needs to call or email the attendance office before 9:00 am on the day of the absence.
Examples of an Excused Absence: School sponsored activities, illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, & pre-arranged absences.
Examples of an Unexcused Absence: Business appointments, hair appointments, missing the school bus, oversleeping, & shopping.
If a student reaches 10 or more absences during a school year they will be required to have either a 1) Medical excuse from a doctor or the school nurse or 2) Prior administrative approval of the absence, in order to be considered an excused absence.
If a student arrives after 8:05 am, he/she must check in at the attendance office. If a parent/guardian knows their student will be late, they need to contact the attendance office or send a note with their student stating why the student is late.
At least 3 days before an known absence, the student needs to bring a note to the attendance office from a parent/guardian explaining the absence, i.e. when, where, and how long. The student then takes the pre-arranged absence form to each of his/her teachers to be get all assignments and the teacher’s signature. The student takes the form back to the attendance office at the end of the day.
Leaving School Early:
LMS is a closed campus school. Students must be signed out at the attendance office by a parent/guardian and must sign back in when they return to school if, it’s the same day. If you need to pick your child up early either send a note with your student or call/email the attendance office.A pass will be given to the student who will meet you in the attendance office at the appointed time.
If a student needs to go home due to a medical reason, they must go through the school nurse’s office to be excused. Students should not call their parents directly to pick them up without the school nurse’s knowledge. Our nurse will give them a pass to go home and the student will meet their parent in the attendance office.
