It is a great honor to serve the students, families, teachers, and staff of the UW Lab School community! This year is the 24th year I have been part of the Lab School family and my 13th year to serve as the principal. I am a Wyoming native and University of Wyoming alumnae with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (in the Area of Reading and Writing), a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Prior to coming to the Lab School, I completed my student teaching in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and spent four great years at Linford Elementary School, here in Laramie, as a Title I Reading paraprofessional and then as a 5th grade teacher. I moved to the Lab School to teach in the 2nd/3rd grade classrooms and then worked for eight years as the school’s Reading Specialist before taking the principal position. My husband, Tom, is a P.E. teacher and swimming coach at Laramie High School. We have been married for 27 years and have three children – Michael, Anna, and Nicholas.
My personal and professional goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of others. I am passionate about children and their education and am committed to maintaining a focus on broad educational goals as we work together to help all members of our learning community reach high levels of achievement. Academic success is essential, however a focus solely on academics and narrowly measured academic achievement, fails to educate the whole child. As a school, we must encourage and celebrate every aspect of each student’s capacity for learning. The definition of a successful learner needs to balance academic learning with a host of other skills and abilities such as: critical thinking, creativity, civic skills and dispositions, perseverance, social skills, work ethic, physical and emotional health, music, art, and world language/culture. I feel privileged to be part of the Lab School children’s educational experience. The children are all wonderful, with such different strengths, interests, and backgrounds. I truly enjoy helping them to learn new things and problem-solve. I delight in hearing their greetings and kind words as well as watching them learn and grow. They are the reason we are here and why I love what I do!
The UW Lab School is a unique educational setting with an amazing 129 year history and an exciting future! We are thankful for the tremendous support the school receives from Albany County School District, the College of Education, the University of Wyoming, the Laramie community, and most of all, the parents and families of our students. We have an incredibly dedicated and talented staff striving to support each and every student in developing the knowledge and skills needed to be successful and productive citizens of our nation and our world. I am so proud of the many accomplishments that are achieved each year by our students and staff. I am even more proud of the efforts that are made to maintain a positive learning environment that is characterized by kindness, respect, and a focus on learning. Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our school. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns. (firstname.lastname@example.org or 307-721-2155)
