UW Lab School Alternative Schedule Public Meeting Presentation & Request for Comment

A virtual public meeting presentation regarding an Alternative Schedule request for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years can be found below this message.  The purpose of the virtual public meeting presentation is to provide information about the proposed schedule and receive comment.  The proposed schedule would extend the school day until 3:15 each Monday through Thursday and provide an early release on most Fridays.  On the early release days, students would attend school through lunch and be dismissed at 12:45.

The proposed schedule and calendar maintain all ACSD#1 vacation days and professional development days to provide as much consistency as possible for staff and families.  Friday afternoon clubs will be available to support any parents for whom the early release is a hardship.

This request reflects the unique role of the school in partnering with the University and serving as a laboratory setting for pre-service educators.  The purpose of the proposed schedule request is to provide additional time to collaborate with colleagues, including pre-service educators, University faculty, and University and community resources.  To support our role as Lab School, the increased collaborative time will focus on improved curriculum, instruction, and assessment to result in improved student learning.

The virtual public meeting presentation can be viewed in the document below.  The public comment period will be from Monday, April 20, through Monday, April 27.  Links to the Alternative Schedule request documents and the public comment form are included in the presentation.  The Alternative Schedule request must be submitted to the Wyoming Department of Education by May 1 and plans for the possible implementation of the alternative schedule for the 2020-2021 school year will be determined with consideration of the changing circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
