Wit & Wisdom

Wit and Wisdom was created by Great Minds, the same nonprofit that created Eureka Math. Wit and Wisdom is a K-8 English curriculum program that brings rich content everyone loves into your child’s classroom. Wit & Wisdom helps your student meet the expectations of the new English standards while celebrating the joy of reading and writing.

Wit & Wisdom is composed of four modules per grade level. Each module artfully explores a specific topic to develop depth of understanding and inspire curiosity. At the core of each module is a selection of literary works, informational texts, and visual art. Every text a student touches is authentic and of the highest quality. Students use these texts at every turn to learn, and eventually master, essential reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary skills.

All strands of the new English standards are integrated throughout each module with:
• Instructional Routines that empower students to tackle complex texts with increasing independence within and across grade levels.
• Text-Dependent Questions that guide students to develop a deeper understanding and establish a basis for the use of evidence in oral and written communication.
• Explicit Writing Instruction which empowers students to independently write essays, narratives, arguments, and informational pieces.
• Text-Based Vocabulary that provides the foundation for morphology and word work.
• And, Formative Assessments which inform teachers and students of their personal progress towards knowledge and skill mastery.

Please visit the Wit and Wisdom website at: www.greatminds.org/english/parents to discover parent information to help your child succeed in language arts.

Ms. Glos' Teaching Philosophy

Ms. Glos’ goal for her classroom is to create a place where students are valued as individuals, engaged in authentic learning experiences, held to high expectations, challenged to learn and grow, and given opportunities to practice academic and social skills within a safe environment.

She believes that students learn best when they are actively engaged participants in learning activities and intrinsically motivated to try something even when it is hard. She wants her students to leave her classroom as lifelong learners with a growth mindset, which is modeled by Ms. Glos with her own behavior and learning standards as a teacher.
