LARAMIE, Wyo. (February 22, 2021) – After serving as Interim Principal of Laramie High School since 2020, Jeff Lewis has been named Principal of LHS, it was announced Tuesday by Albany County School District #1 (ACSD#1) Superintendent Dr. Jubal Yennie.

“I am excited to continue the valuable work we, as a school community, have started,” Lewis said.

Lewis has spent the last 12 years as a professional in ACSD#1. Prior to being named Interim Principal of LHS, he served as Assistant Principal at LHS from 2017-2020. He helped improve the four- and five-year graduation rates at LHS every year during his tenure. As Assistant Principal, Lewis oversaw the physical education, social studies, math, special education, and counseling departments. Additionally, he was responsible for the day-to-day building functions of LHS, which included transportation, building scheduling, and maintenance.

“I am pleased with the selection of Jeff Lewis for the Principal of Laramie High School,” Dr. Yennie said. “The selection committee of district administrators, board members, parents, students, and department representatives at the high school were all in agreement that Mr. Lewis has done an exceptional job ushering LHS through this tumultuous year. The committee further acknowledged that Mr. Lewis has always had an ability to work with individual students to help them succeed, and he demonstrates a care and concern for students and staff members.”

Lewis spent 2014-2017 serving as Principal of Whiting High School. At WHS, Lewis observed and evaluated teachers, increased enrollment by 20% over the average, and graduated the largest class in the history of WHS. Lewis also oversaw the day-to-day building functions of WHS.

“Mr. Lewis takes pride in providing professional growth opportunities for members of the LHS staff, and I look forward to working with Mr. Lewis to continue the long-standing excellence of Laramie High School,” Dr. Yennie said.

From 2013-14, Lewis acted as the Director of Transportation for ACSD#1. Lewis started at LHS by acting as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director from 2009-13. In that role, he oversaw the special education department, tracked and monitored at-risk students, and monitored student-athlete eligibility.

Lewis graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 2002, and a master’s degree in education and educational leadership in 2004. Lewis earned his principal’s certificate from the University of Wyoming in 2011.
