View Calendar A-1

LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 11, 2021) – At the March 10 Board of Trustees meeting, the Albany County School District #1 (ACSD#1) board unanimously voted to approve an academic calendar for the 2022-23 school year.

The approved option is Calendar A-1, and is the more traditional of the options. The only significant change is Professional Development (PD) days have mostly been moved to Fridays. This move was made in order to have a majority of the weeks of instruction begin on Mondays. Additionally, it will allow for less loss of instruction for students’ activities and athletics.

“I do appreciate all the feedback from the community about this,” said Trustee Beth Bear. “I think there’s some benefits to continuing the discussion of what an enrichment afternoon opportunity would look like on Fridays, I just think that now is not the time. Coming off this different school year, I think there are some real concerns about some deficits our kids might have had in education.”

The other major option reviewed by the board was Calendar C, where Fridays were scheduled as early release for all students in the district. The early release was meant to allow for more study time, review time with teachers, and time for teachers to do prep work.

“I want to say it was an amazing experience to see the broad representation between the faculty and staff within the district, parents, and a pretty healthy representation from this board,” said Trustee Jamin Johnson. “That was encouraging. I feel like there was a lot of great dialogue and discussion around people’s thought processes. But I would agree that, based on the circumstances we’ve found ourselves in to no fault of our own, the idea of reducing contact time, instructional time, just doesn’t feel right. I was also taken by the potential increase cost of adding transportation to the end of an enrichment day.”

The other feature of Calendar A-1 is a Winter Break that goes from Monday, Dec. 19 through Friday, Dec. 30. In a recent survey of district stakeholders, this Winter Break option received support from 60.4 percent of the 959 responses. The other option was a Winter Break scheduled from Monday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Jan. 6.
