LARAMIE, Wyo. (December 21, 2020) – The Albany County School District librarian team announced free access to SORA, an eBooks service, for students and teachers within the district.

Through a collaborative effort between the County Library, district librarians, and the ACSD and SORA technology departments, this new service has been rolled out in time for the Winter Break.

“The problem I had encountered is when I tried to look for a new book to read I couldn’t find one so when I heard about the app SORA earlier, I could read a lot of new books and books that I had an interest in,” said one student in the computer-based virtual instruction (CBVI) program. “SORA helped get me the books that I wanted to read. I have read one book that I loved and now I’m reading a book that I am getting into. The app helps me do these assignments more.”

The Albany County Public Library had an existing membership with the Virtual Library of Wyoming, but only students with county library cards could get to the books. Librarians from the district and county researched, proposed, and drove implementation of SORA’s service to connect students to the public library collection for no charge

This resource is equitably accessible to all students and faculty. Students access the Virtual Library of Wyoming using their school district credentials. Based on their log in information, students are linked to thousands of age appropriate resources.
