Will You Be Ready for On-Line Report Card Access?

Beginning this month, our schools are moving to on-line report cards. Using our secure Power School system, you will be able to view, save, and print your student’s report cards once they are released. Our next report cards will be available after school on Friday, January 27. Using this method of delivery allows us to be more efficient with both our time and taxpayer resources.

Many of you already use Power School for maintaining a student lunch account. If you already do this, you are all set to access our new report card system. If you don’t have a Power School account, or if you have forgotten how to access the system, please call our office at 721-4436 for instructions and information. Only parents are allowed to create accounts to access the private and confidential information contained in Power School. When you call our office we’ll send home a unique access number and instructions that will allow you to access only your child’s information.

January 27th is coming soon! Give the system a try soon so that you will be ready to access report card information!

School Calendar Changes

schools-out

The Albany County School District is making adjustments to our school calendar. Several school days have now been designated as ½ school days. These fall at key times to allow elementary teachers to collect and analyze student data in groups and to complete report cards and other school reports. Please plan ahead as most of these ½ days are not on our published school calendars. ½ days of school are scheduled on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, October 19th
  • Friday, November 4th
  • Friday, January 13th
  • Monday, February 20th
  • Friday, April 7th
  • Thursday, April 13th
  • Friday, May 26th
  • Thursday, June 1st

On each of these days school will be dismissed at 11:35 at Beitel and 11:20 at Valley View. A sack lunch will be available from our kitchen on those days before students are dismissed.

Attendance Matters

Common sense tells us that kids who miss school miss opportunities to learn. Some absences are just unavoidable. But, how much is too much? New research tells us that missing an average of just two days a month makes a child much more likely to fail a subject or to not graduate from high school. This research also points out that parents often underestimate the effects of missing school. It’s in everyone’s interest that students are at school the vast majority of the time. Thank you for making attendance a priority at Valley View.
